Those two teams look to be on a collision course in the state of Washington. Although reportedly Liberty intends to proceed to regional playoffs, while Chuckanut expects to stay home.
Washington Opening Weekend
Kent 0 Liberty 34
Liberty II over Wenatchee
Eastside 46 Valley 5 (note, this is not the Eastside team listed in Rugby Magazine's rankings, that ranked team is from Portland, Ore., not Eastern King County, Washington)
Chuckanut 64 Seattle 15
Down in Arizona it looks like Tempe is still the team to beat in the desert. But much like their senior men's team counterparts, they have a rival in Red Mountain.
Tempe defeated Red Mountain in the opening weekend in January, 10-3. But that was before a few kids from across the Pacific (and across the equator) joined Red Mountain, making them significantly better.
Tempe has a returning backline led by Sione Letoi, Alex Taefu and Tommy McDonald, and a young but very athletic forward pack that is learning, and strong-arming many opponents. Isaac Chicas is one of the few returners there.
Tempe, who beat University of Arizona's 3rd this past weekend, leads the league and is undefeated, and is expected to finish the league season in the same situation. But a playoff clash with Red Mountain will not result in the same type of tense match. Red Mountain has more attacking flair now.
This weekend Tempe goes to Southern California to take on preseason #7 Belmont Shore.
The Southern California team manhandled Fullerton 69-12 this past weekend to improve to 2-0 in league play. The result to really note from that weekend though would be Oceanside, which defeated Single-High School SoCal champs Fallbrook 48-22. Oceanside is 3-0.
Other SoCal scores from the weekend
FULLERTON 12 BELMONT SHORE 69
L.A. COUGARS 24 SANTA MONICA 10
FALLBROOK 22 OCEANSIDE 48

MUSTANGS 34 SOC GATORS 10
HAWAIIAN GARDENS 31 PASADENA 22
Further north in Northern California, Vacaville claimed the big scalp of the weekend, defeating fellow undefeated team Islanders 36-22.
Vacaville stands at 3-0, while Jesuit (easy winners over the Wolfpack) and the Cougar club (54-14 over McClatchy).
"We are getting wrestlers from their season so we are close to having a consistent roster," said Cougars Head Coach Tyler Pierce, ominously.
Those three teams are tops in the Sacramento league.
Coming up Jesuit takes on the Islanders on Wednesday, while Vacaville gets a rehearsal against the Jesuit top squad with a game against Jesuit Red.
Then on March 19 we see Cougars against Islanders "which," said Pierce, "should be a dandy."
In the Skyhawk Conference Peninsula Green went to 1-1 with a big win over Live Oak. Things are still moving slowly in that conference.
In the Bay Conference, Lamorinda won by forfeit over De La Salle. Many expect big things from Lamo again this year.

DIXON 24 MOTHERLODE 5
ISLANDERS 22 VACAVILLE 36
JESUIT A 63 WOLFPACK VARSITY 0

Out in the mountains of Colorado, the big news wasn't about rugby at all, as the Fort Collins v. Grand Junction game was halted for the tragic death of Matthew Hammerdorfer, who died of a non-rugby-related heart condition.
All teams in Colorado will observe a moment of silence for Matthew before this weekend's games.
Aurora won a close one 10-7 over the SWARM in the main DI game.
Elsewhere in the West, Kansas City Junior Blues U19 team defeated their single-school rivals St. Thomas Aquinas in a cross-divisional clash. Blues prevailed 20-12. Bixby hammered Broken Arrow 80-0 in Oklahoma.
In Texas the Woodlands kept winning, defeating Plano 65-5. The big game for Woodlands was the week before when they edged now 3-1 Katy 12-7.
Those two teams seem to be the best in Texas right now.
And finally, in the South, Georgia's Alpharetta is an impressive 4-0 after shellacking Oconee County 78-0.
